{First Purchase at Goodwill}
I have been a long time donator of the Goodwill. It’s so easy to box up my “unwantables” and donate. Way easier than conducting a yard sale. I love to browse the store and see everyone’s “unwantable”. But I have never bought anything!
I know you think I’m a snob… I’m too good to take other people “JUNK” home with me….
Not true at all!!!
The truth is… I look at your blogs and see all the trash goodies that you find at really really great prices!
The trash goodies I see are really really over priced!
Is it me?….am I cheap? or Is it the store?…are their prices too high?
Well~ today my luck changed. Not in a big way {I’ll still be playing the lotto} but I did find some small hidden treasures.
Total cost $3.52
large frame ~ $.99
glass container ~ $1.00
small frame mirror ~ $.30
Waverly fabric ~ $1.00
I’m sitting here thinking to myself…. maybe it is me….maybe when I enter the Goodwill, I don’t see things the way you do. Maybe I’m so practical that my creative side only puts in front of me what I need. (or can handle) Let me explain….
the frame… I picked out because I thought I could use it on a project I’m doing for my mother.
the framed mirror…. I need something to go on my family photo collage wall
the fabric… even though I haven’t finished son #2’s bedroom I thought the colors palette would be great in son #1’s bedroom
the glass container…. I could see it filled with colorful….M&M’s!!! (okay not exactly a need but definitely I had a vision)
Happy Thrifting,
Carrie

I had that same problem when I first started going. I really had to work on "thinking outside the box", and I still do. It helps to go a LOT, because the really awesome stuff at the super great prices don't last very long. And if you see something and even THINK you might want it, you should get it then...because when you go back it likely won't be there. I've kicked myself many times for not getting something when I first saw it because LITERALLY the next day it would be gone!
ReplyDeleteYou aren't the only one that seems to never get anything at Goodwill, it seems the prices here are over priced to me too. Every once in a blue moon there will be some great inexpensive finds, but that doesn't happen to often. We have an America's Thrift Store that isn't too far from Goodwill, and their prices are soo much more cheaper.. (And they usually have percent off color stickers which makes them even better finds..) So maybe I'm cheap too or Goodwill's prices are too high..
ReplyDeleteAtleast you had awesome finds today :)
I'm another one that lives in an area with a wayyyy overpriced Goodwill! The really funny thing is I have been to one that is in a way more ffluent area of town than ours is in...they have much higher quality stuff and lower rpcies! Go figure! I love thrift shopping tho and I have found a couple i love that are on the cheap. I am loving your blog and all the inspiration and projects!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally see that jar filled with buttons....LOL. I'm a scrapper so that would be wonderful filled with buttons......would put a smile on my face anyway :)
ReplyDeleteGirl you aced it! Oh I love your finds. Be blessed. Cindy
ReplyDeleteNeat finds at the Goodwill! I don't think you're a snob, I've never bought anything from there either and I am MASSIVELY broke lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming to see me on my SITS Day :)
Sometimes I go to the thrift store and find lots of good stuff at fabulous prices. Other times, nothing... or I find good stuff that's overpriced. It's just a game of chance. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you went in and found some treasures! I go at least once a week and I am shocked at the amazing things I find. I've posted a few of my treasures. I found two amazing tables for 9.99 and was so giddy when I saw them I almost knocked a vase over to get to them. The hunt is so much fun, glad you are a convert!
ReplyDeletemost of the time it is overpriced, but every once in a while I'll go in and find some great deals!
ReplyDeletelove the stuff you found & awesome prices!
Looks like you found some great stuff! I like going to garage sales in the summer - you can always find some good deals!
ReplyDeleteThose are great finds! I love thrifting!! But, I have always been that type of shopper...I go for the "treasure hunt"
ReplyDeleteWow, great finds. I've only been to a few thrift shops, but I've never had any luck. Everything is always picked over by the time I get there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! ~Liz
I've never been to my local Good Will.. I was just thinking about going by there this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration! ;)
