{Another trash to treasure}
For a quick tutorial on how I made this:
1. Cut old molding into blocks
2. Painted the blocks
3. Mod-Podge scrap paper
4. Distressed edges
5. Apply vinyl
6. Hot glued ribbon
7. Hang on curtain rod
{This is the same process as the Easter Blocks. To view more detailed directions CLICK HERE.}
The rod was an adjustable curtain rod. I didn’t need the extra length. I just removed the extension rod and hot glued the knob on the end. The brackets that were provide made the blocks come out too far from the wall. So, I screwed into the wall two long screws and sat the rod on top. A little black paint made the screws disappear.
Now I need to collect some black frames and photos to hang above.

Very nice.
ReplyDeleteOh so CUTE! I love the colors! I checked out your Easter blocks too...adorable! I think I'm the only one on earth without a cricut! Thanks for linking up to Ta-dah Tuesday!

So adorable! I might have to give this a go at my own house! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute. I would totally make one of these for my house....IF I had a Cricut. Love it!

I just love this!! How awesome to reuse those pieces! I wanted to let you know that we featured you today so come on over and grab a button!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!!! I have one of these rods, too. I wanted to hang pics on it using ribbon, but because it stuck out from the wall so far, they dangeled and moved too much.
ReplyDeleteI think I like the Family saying better though! And I think I'll be nixing the holders and go with long screws to match the rod.
Thanks a million, now maybe I'll finally put something on my empty rod thats been hanging for A YEAR empty in my livingroom!
just found your blog and am enjoying reading your past articles and craftiness!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a great inspiration to us all.
Natalie
I am very into monograms right now-and yours spell a word. I love what you have done!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this idea and the colors! Im an abstract painting mom and looking for ideas for my bedroom makeover! I knew i wanted black white and red. And then have black in white pics of my kids all over.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea!
I just made a family sign like this too for a craft night that I attend each month! I didn't do scrapbook paper like you did - but I am really loving yours - so cute!
ReplyDeleteCarrie... what a fantastic project! I love your paper choices in this and your Easter project (they coordinate so wonderfully!), and the letter fonts are so original. I had to google to learn what a Cricut is. HaHa!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by DesignTies today and commenting on the fireplace facade I designed for Kate. I hope to see you visiting Kelly and I again soon!

Ques. though...What is the cartridge you use to have the different font style letters for this??? Please email me @ santasgiftshoppe1@hotmail.com
P.S. I'm already a follower..I hope you will follow me as well.
Thanks so much ..Have a great day!!
Barb
I love your sign! How creative and it turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI love this Can you please tell me what font or cartridge you used for the letters?
ReplyDeletekermetta3167@yahoo.com
Thanks again everyone for your sweet comments!
ReplyDeleteKermetta~ The font I used is "Chocolate Box Decorative".
Not sure how I came about this.... but I used a combination of upper and lower case lettering. Some of the letters seemed to be to "detailed" for me in upper case.
I've had this in my "Make This!" folder for awhile now, and I finally made mine this weekend! All I need is a black curtain rod- or at least some spray paint.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration- I just love it. I'm linking up to you on my blog- occasionallycrafty.blogspot.com
I love this!!! I've wanted some type of 'family' plaque or something for quite awhile, but nothing was quite right. This is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat size are the blocks?
ReplyDeleteI do not have a cricut - do you recommended something else for the letters???
Sumer Jo~ If you download the printables from the Halloween post, you will have the exact size of each block! Without a Cricut, I would glue the scrapbook paper on the blocks and then use my computer to print off the letters on red (or what ever color you want) paper, cut out the letters with scissors, glue in place, and then Mod-Podge everything to seal.
